The ballroom at the Grizzly Bend Club was filled with more than 300 people for the Annual Ski Expo and Dessert and Wine Fair Oct. 29.

Eight statewide representatives were available to offer information about resorts, lodging, sports and trails, and provide answers and advice about their activities and facilities. There were also vendors offering free samples to an assortment of foods, desserts and wines.

"This is the second one I've been to and I really enjoyed myself," said Master Sgt. Timothy Hezel, Malmstrom's career assistance advisor. "The dessert portion of it was tasty. It's always good to try desserts."

"Upon arriving at Malmstrom three years ago, my family and I had never been skiing," said Sergeant Hezel. "After taking a few lessons at Showdown, I became hooked. I would definitely recommend the expo to winter enthusiasts, especially those who are new to the area. It gives them a chance to see what there is to do here."

Other guests enjoyed being social and meeting different people from the base who shared common interests.

"The food was very good," said Aileen Everhart, one of the expo attendants. "It was also nice meeting new people and the vendors were very friendly."

There was also live entertainment provided by members of Zero Echo, an 80's tribute band featured at the Skyline bar and lounge.

"The event was a great success," said Ellen Voigt, Grizzly Bend community center manager. "I'm looking forward to continuing the event in the future."

Throughout the evening, guests could be seen with red and blue tickets in hand. Outdoor Recreation and other vendors raffled off prizes and packages including free ski rental and lift tickets, a 'show up at Showdown' card, which includes 10 ski-for-free days at the Showdown Ski Resort and a two-night stay at the Izaak Walton Inn at Glacier National Park.

"The expo was coordinated to help people plan their recreational needs for the winter," Ms. Voigt said. "There are a lot of opportunities for people to go and experience the beautiful area and get out amongst other people."
