Officials at the Air Force Personnel Center will conduct the annual Nurse Enlisted Commissioning Program board May 11-13 to select candidates for fall 2010 start dates.

The program offers active-duty enlisted personnel the opportunity to earn a bachelor's degree in a high-need academic major. NECP students will complete their degree at a college or university with an Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps detachment or a college or university with a "cross-town agreement."

Students will be commissioned after passing the National Council Licensure Examination, attending officer training school and the Nurse Transition Program. Students will be required to attend school year-round for up to 24 consecutive calendar months, to include summer sessions.

"The program is a great opportunity for career enhancement and it encourages leadership," said Wayne Benson, Education and Training Center guidance counselor. "Those who have already met the requirements and those who can meet the requirements by following the guidelines should take advantage of it."

Initial eligibility requirements call for continental United States applicants to have one year time-on-station at the board date. Applicants must be on active-duty status with a minimum grade of E-4, and must be commissioned by age 42.

To apply for the program, applicants must also have completed 59 semester hours of graded college courses with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.

Critical dates for those interested in applying for the program are:

· Suspense date for notification of intent to apply: Feb. 26, 2010
· Suspense date for submission of transcripts for academic evaluation: Mar. 26, 2010
· Suspense date for submitting completed application: Apr. 23, 2010

"Any applicant looking into the program should first go to the Web site to obtain some basic information and educate themselves on the opportunity to see if it's something they're truly interested in," Mr. Benson said. "After that point, they come back to us and we try to shed some light on the program and add any additional information or answer any other questions they may have."

NECP guidelines with eligibility requirements and deadlines are available for review at the Malmstrom Education and Training Office.
