Air Force officials are taking applicants from active-duty enlisted Airmen for Physician Assistant Phase I training classes beginning December 2010, and April and August 2011.

"This is another excellent opportunity for a medical commissioning program," said Wayne Benson, Education and Training Center guidance counselor, "especially for those who already have a background in medical coursework."

Candidates selected for the program will be commissioned as a first lieutenant upon completion of training.

Applicants must be in grades E-3 through E-8 with minimum of 2 years but cannot exceed 14 years active military service as of Aug. 31, 2011.

To be eligible for the program, applicants must:

· Be less than 40 years of age when they start Phase I training to meet age limitations for appointment as first lieutenants in the Biomedical Sciences Corps as specified in Air Force Instruction 36-2005, Appointment in Commissioned Grades and Designation and Assignment in Professional Categories;

· Have taken the Scholastic Aptitude Test within five years of the board date, with a minimum of 450 for all areas, and a minimum combined score of 1,425 in critical reading, verbal and math; and

· Have a minimum general score of 80 points of the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery or Air Force Classification Test.

Other academic requirements call for applicants to have completed 60 semester hours of transferable college credits with a grade point average of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale; 30 of these semester hours must be actual in-classroom experience at an accredited college or university and must be complete by March 1.

Completed applications must be received no later than Jan. 25. The selection board is scheduled to convene at the Air Force Personnel Center March 16.

"Any applicant interested in the program can call the education office and ask questions," said Mr. Benson, "but majority of the information as far as eligibility criteria, application processing, or general application information is already available to them on the website."
