Realtors to honor local military units with CANstruction tribute Published Feb. 11, 2010 By 341st Missile Wing Public Affairs Office staff MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- The Great Falls Association of Realtors will be participating in the 5th annual CANstruction project Feb. 19th from 5 to 11 p.m. in the lower level of the Holiday Village Mall. Viewing of the CANstruction is open to the public Feb. 20 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and with either a $1 donation or a can of food, spectators can cast a vote for their favorite sculpture. Categories include Best Use of Labels, Best Meal, Structural Ingenuity, Juror's Favorite, Honorable Mention and People's Choice. The event is a food drive for the Great Falls Food Bank. This year, the Great Falls Association of Realtors has chosen to build a tribute to the Montana Air National Guard and Malmstrom. They will be building a model of an F-15 fighter and an ICBM missile. The theme they have chosen is "We CAN defend against hunger." They are also looking for any service-related items they could include in their military tribute display following the build. "If anyone has specific military memorabilia they would like displayed during the public viewing, please let me know," said Sharon Virgin, Broker/Owner of American Realty Group. "We will make arrangements to pick the items up. We will have an American flag on display and are hoping to have different military items to go with it." According to Ms. Virgin, the rules for CANstruction night are pretty specific. "There has to be five people working on the sculpture at all times within a 10-foot by 10-foot area," she said. "And those five people can't talk to anyone outside of the work area. Others on the team on the outside looking in cannot talk to us and tell us if something doesn't look right. They would have to tag one of us out and come in to the work area themselves to offer a fix." She said the event is exciting to both participate in and to watch.
