Military experience needed in the classroom Published March 19, 2010 By Janna Urschel Program Coordinator MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Are you about to retire from the military, or are you separating from the service after more than six years of active duty? Are you currently serving in the Guard or Reserve? Are you considering transitioning to the Guard or Reserve? Are you a military veteran? Those military members and veterans who would like more information about a career in public education are invited to attend the Teaching as a Second Career Seminar at Malmstrom Air Force Base on Wednesday, April 7 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Education Center. The seminar will cover eligibility requirements and assistance provided by the Troops to Teachers program. The seminar will also clarify teaching certification requirements and programs leading to certification. Teacher training programs and job opportunities for teachers in Montana and across the United States will be discussed. Learn how you may qualify for financial assistance up to $10,000. Representatives from Troops to Teachers, various education agencies and schools will be on hand. Current teacher Brad Warren (USAF, ret.) will give his perspective as a Troops to Teachers client and life in the classroom. Troops to Teachers is a joint Department of Education and Department of Defense program that helps eligible military personnel begin new careers as teachers in public schools where their skills, knowledge and experience are most needed.
