Teams from the 10th, 12th, 490th Missile Squadrons as well as one from the 341st Force Support Squadron scuffled to create culinary perfection at the Warrior Chef competition March 30 at the Elkhorn Dining Facility. Using lemons as the theme ingredient for the battle, the four two-person teams concocted their varied masterpieces in the hop of reigning supreme and earning bragging rights as the best Warrior Chef.

"The competition is a huge moral builder for the chefs," said Master Sgt. Ricky Woods, 341st Operations Group chef superintendent. "It also lets the other members of Team Malmstrom know what they are actually capable of doing."

Each team had 90 minutes to prepare and present their individual meals. Upon completion, the team leader let the judges know they were ready, plating a display dish and a serving for each of the three judges.

The dishes were judged on texture and flavor, appearance and display, creativity and originality, and the chef's personal dress and appearance.

In fourth place with 120 points, the 490th MS team of Staff Sgt. Celia Morse and Senior Airman Harold Matheny, who prepared "M&M Shrimp Scampi."

Third place was awarded to the 12th MS team of Senior Airmen Lindsay Schneider and Eleanor Fyler with 124 points. The prepared "Southern Lemon Catfish."

Earning four more points for second place was the 341st FSS team of Staff Sgt. Melissa Garrido and Senior Airman Antionette Basinger who prepared "Spicy Lemon Spaghetti with Herb-Crusted Chicken."

The winners, with a total of 138 points, were the 10th MS team who prepared "Col. Fortney Pasta with Col. Cotton Lemon Bars." Senior Airman Maurice Monroe and Airman 1st Class Tyler Pantzlaff's team motto was "10th MS because we're better than all the rest," and for this competition, their motto proved true.

Col. Mohammed Khan, 341st Operations Group commander, coined all the participants for their hard work and efforts at the conclusion of the ceremony.

"We couldn't do what we do 24/7, 365 for the last 48 years without a robust and capable chef cadre and we saw that demonstrated today," said Colonel Khan. "They are the Iron Chef's of the 341st Missile Wing."
