2nd Avenue North gate closing for renovation Published April 8, 2010 By Valerie Mullett 341st Missile Wing Public Affairs Office MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- The 2nd Avenue North gate will be closed to all traffic for an extended period of time starting at 5 a.m. April 12. During this time, the 10th Avenue North gate will be the 24-hours-a-day access point for the base. Visitors needing passes will still be required to stop at the Visitors Control Center on 2nd Avenue North prior to proceeding to the 10th Avenue North gate. During peak hours 6 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m., the 1st Liberty gate will be open. In the morning, it will be available for inbound traffic only. In the afternoon , it will be available for outbound traffic only. "The construction project has been in progress for quite some time," said Master Sgt. Gary Gill, noncommissioned officer in charge of installation security. "The gate is being remodeled to meet antiterrorism requirements for ballistic protection, and to upgrade it and add more space."
