Base residents reminded of yard and grounds care requirements Published Aug. 6, 2010 By Airman 1st Class Kristina Overton 341st Missile Wing Public Affairs Office MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Cleaning gutters, trimming shrubs and mowing lawns are common summer chores for those who reside on base. For housing residents, the Base Housing Office provides the requirements for yard maintenance, the Self-Help Store or Outdoor Recreation can provide them some of the tools and supplies needed to meet them. Yards are inspected on a regular basis, and the housing office issues discrepancy notices to resident's not meeting appearance standards. The Self-Help Store can provide family housing occupants with upkeep tools to include fertilizers, weed killer, grass seed, flowers and weed eaters. Outdoor Recreation has several gas powered yard care items you can rent, such as lawn mowers, aerators, lawn vacuums, edgers, and weed eaters, In addition they also have fertilizer spreaders and electric blowers that are available to rent. Residents must care for grounds up to 50 feet from their home, or grounds within a reasonable natural boundary. The boundary may be identified as either halfway between a home and an adjoining home, a line marked by shrubbery or trees or a fenced area. Each individual area of responsibility extends from their home to the center of the street to include the trimming and the removal of grass on the curbs, cracks on the street or in gutters. All residences are expected to maintain a neat, well-kept lawn. The following requirements were provided by the Base Housing Office to assist residents in grounds care. · All bushes and shrubs are to be kept neat and trimmed, and should not touch the siding of the house. Dead trees or shrubs should be reported to the Base Housing Office. · Flower beds are to be weeded and kept free of debris. All dead vegetation should be removed after the growing season. · All pet waste should be picked up and properly disposed of on a daily basis.
