Applications being accepted for the 2011 Air Force Service Camps Published March 11, 2011 Submitted by Youth Programs staff MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- The Air Force Services Agency has announced their camp call for 2011. This year, they are making a single call for three camps to include Teen Aviation, Teen Leadership and Space Camp. Lodging, meals, and activity fees are centrally funded. Air fare or vehicle travel is the responsibility of the attendee. Teen Aviation Camp is an opportunity for teens to get a glimpse of life at the United States Air Force Academy. Aviation Camp will be held June 4-9 at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. Flying in a Cessna 145 is just one of the highlights at this camp. Participants are selected through a competitive application process. Applicants must meet the following requirements: · Be a dependent of an active-duty military member assigned to or living on an Air Force or Joint Base installation. Be a dependent of an AF retired military, AF civilian employee, Air National Guard or AF Reserve who has been activated within the last 12 months. · Be entering their sophomore or junior year in the fall of 2011 · Previous Teen Aviation Camp attendees may not apply. Applications are due to Stevie Brown by March 25. Teen Leadership Camp is a 5-day (July 11-15) residential program which provides youth a glimpse of what university life is like while developing their leadership skills. Activities include team building, high/low ropes course, conflict resolution, public speaking and more. This camp is for high school students who've completed their freshman year by the fall of 2011 who are interested in leadership, team dynamics and peer mentorship. Eligible applicants include teen dependents of AF active-duty military, active-duty military assigned to or living on an Air Force Base, AF retired military, AF civilian employees, or activated Air National Guard or AF Reserve at OCONUS and CONUS installations. Priority will be given to dependents with deployed sponsors. Air Force Services Child and Youth Programs is excited to sponsor the AF Space Camp Program at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, Huntsville ,Ala., July 25-30. Youth will experience, imagine and interact through space shuttle mission simulations, tours of the center and the chance to witness first-hand the everyday challenges faced by astronauts. The camp is an inspiring week of fun and enriching space activities. This program is open to family members of active-duty military assigned to or living on an AF installation, AF retired military, AF civilian employees, or activated Air National Guard or AF Reserve. Scholarships are available for youth, ages 12 - 18, to participate in the AF Space Camp Program. The camp is divided into two age groups: ages 12 - 14, are selected to participate in the Space Academy and ages 15 - 18, for the Advanced Space Academy. Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 2.8 and must provide documentation of it. Applications for both Teen Leadership and Space Camp are due to Ms. Brown by April 8. A separate application is required for each camp and may be found at www.afyouthprograms.com. Teens may only participate in one camp.
