Members from the environmental flight of Air Force Global Strike Command's 341st Civil Engineer Squadron will partner with several Great Falls-area environmental stewards to bring the community an annual Earth Day celebration April 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Civic Center Convention Center.

The theme this year is "Get Your Green On" and the day's activities will focus on that theme. Information booths will be set up, two local car dealers will have hybrid vehicles on display, recycling and energy conservation information will be available, and there will be demonstrations on green gardening and composting. Children's games of varying nature will be offered at the different information areas. Prizes from recycled content material will be given away.

In addition, the winners to the poster contest that ended March 31 will be announced. All winners will receive an Earth Day T-shirt. Additionally, the winner in grades K-5 category will receive a backpack; grades 6-8 winner gets a $75 Visa gift card; and the winner in grades 9-12 will get a $125 Visa gift card. All entries are eligible for a grand prize to be drawn at 2:30 p.m. of a trek bicycle (must be present to win).

"Earth Day allows us to focus on the environmental impacts we are having on the Earth," said Frank Carpenter, environmental protection specialist with the 341st CES. "It is important to get information out to the public on the impact we are having on our environment. The legacy we leave is for our children's children. What we do now will affect them, not us, but it is our responsibility to inform and educate people that there are cleaner and alternative ways of using the resources we have."
