Pop quiz: A few years ago, King Hussein of Jordan has said he will never go to war with Israel again, except over:
a. Oil
b. Technology
c. Bubble Gum
d. Water
Surprisingly, the answer is water, one of the world's most precious resources.

Here is another pop quiz:
A water leak that drips one drop per second consumes more than how many gallons in a year:
a. One milk jug (a gallon)
b. 32 milk jugs
c. 320 milk jugs
d. 3,200 milk jugs
Believe it or not, the answer is 3,200 gallons of water per year.

What can be done to prevent water waste?
  • Ensure all faucets are turned off.
  • If a leak persists and you live in base housing, report it to housing maintenance to be fixed.
  • Be mindful of other places water is used on a daily basis, such as laundry and dish washing. Try to do those activities when necessary. For example, doing laundry to wash one towel is not an efficient use of water.
Lawn irrigation is one of the biggest users of water. To help with conservation efforts in this area, the Self-Help store is issuing timers to base housing residents. They are located in building 220 and are a simple, easy way for residents to contribute to the overall water conservation on base.

Working together this summer, water can be conserved.
