Three individuals from Great Falls were awarded $1,500 scholarships each as part of the Scholarships for Military Children Program, funded by manufactures and suppliers that provide for commissaries world-wide.

"Winners were Cameo A. Cayer, Jared M. Knupp and Kyler F. Nathe," said John Nelson, commissary store director.

A presentation ceremony was held June 26 at this Air Force Global Strike Command base's commissary.

"We're excited to report that the scholarship program continues to be a success in helping military families defray the cost of education," said Defense Commissary Agency Acting Director and Chief Executive Officer, Thomas E. Milks. "We're proud to be associated with a program that has awarded 5,402 scholarships totaling more than $8.3 million since its inception in 2001."

Scholarship managers select winners based on academic merit, participation in extracurricular and volunteer activities, and quality of essays. The full list of scholarship recipients and sponsoring business partners can be found online at http://www.militaryscholar.org.

Nearly every one of the Defense Commissary Agency's stores will announce a local winner, however, Malmstrom's commissary is proud to have three recipients.

The Scholarships for Military Children program is administered by Fisher House Foundation, a nonprofit organization responsible for building comfort homes near military medical centers. The foundation bears all costs of the program so that every dollar donated goes toward scholarships. Anyone interested in donating to the program can do so through the military scholar website.
