Help Malmstrom 'Go Green' Published July 27, 2011 By Cody Koontz 341st Civil Engineer Squadron MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Go green - It is the motto we have all heard from car commercials. Every American can take part and "go green" by simply making recycling part of their daily routine. Below is a guide for recycling on Malmstrom Air Force Base. Aluminum, tin, glass, cardboard, and newspaper: To recycle aluminum, tin, glass, cardboard and newspaper, deliver them to the Malmstrom AFB Recycle Center located behind the car wash. Housing residents are supplied recycle bins that are designed for curbside pickup. Housing residents are highly encouraged to make use of this service. Usable household items (clothing, appliances, tools, furniture) The Airman's Attic (next to the CDC), Goodwill (453-0311), Salvation Army (452-9981) and St. Vincent De Paul (761-0870) are all establishments that will take useful household items. Another option is to consign items to the Thrift Store (731-3213). Unusable furniture and other large items: Housing residents with large items must call 731-6549 and leave a message including a description of the item, address, and phone number. Grass clippings and sod: In order to eliminate the volume of grass clippings, base residents are requested to use a mulching mower. Mulching blades are available for residents at the Self Help Store, building 220. For those who must bag grass clippings or have removed sod from their yard, use the refuse dumpsters behind building 448 and building 226. Hazardous household materials: Residents are encouraged to drop off any hazardous household materials, like unused and unwanted chemicals, to the Self Help Store so other residents may use them. Motor oil can contaminate water very quickly, and causes wildlife and environment damage. No hazardous waste should ever be placed in any refuse container. Any questions regarding refuse contact Quality Assurance at 731-6549. Recycling questions can be addressed by calling 731-6448. As a reminder, the above services are for Malmstrom residents only, it is illegal to bring any chemicals or refuse on to base for disposal. Dispose of those items through the local refuse services or recycle centers.
