October is National Disability Employment Month Published Oct. 3, 2011 By Lisa Smith 341st Force Support Squadron, HR Specialist MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Targeted Disability Hiring On July 26, 2010, President Obama issued Executive Order 13548, which directs Executive departments and agencies to improve their efforts to employ Federal workers with disabilities and targeted disabilities through increased recruitment, hiring and retention of these individuals. Malmstrom's total percent of disabled veterans is 28.04 percent and 18.9 percent of those are 30 percent or more disabled. Malmstrom's Total of Individuals with Disabilities is 13.62 percent. The Air Force goal is 8 percent. Total Individuals with Targeted Disabilities is 0.48 percent. The Air Force goal is 2 percent. Malmstrom falls short of the Air Force goal for hiring individuals with targeted disabilities. There are special appointing authorities for individuals with targeted disabilities. Malmstrom civilian personnel is focusing on individuals with targeted disabilities. Targeted disabilities include deaf, blind, missing extremities, partial or complete paralysis, epilepsy, severe intellectual or psychiatric disability and dwarfism.
