DBIDS mandatory for entry to Malmstrom Published Oct. 28, 2011 By Tech. Sgt. Joseph Feigel 341st Security Forces Squadron, NCOIC, Installation Security MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- The 341st Security Forces Squadron has been operating the Defense Biometric Identification System, or DBIDS, for more than a year now and it is still running strong. Currently there are more than 60 Air Force and Army bases with DBIDS and eventually all bases will have the system. In the near future, all U.S. Air Force bases will be linked and a single registration will allow you access to all bases. Malmstrom AFB DBIDS will be undergoing an update in the summer of 2012 which will allow registration to take place at the gate rather than at the visitor center. With the updated system, the registration process will be a lot less time consuming; a simple scan of your ID card will complete your registration and grant you entry onto the installation. In accordance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12, all personnel will be electronically vetted and poses a fraud-resistant ID card; therefore registration is required by all personnel, of all branches of service before entry will be allowed. All personnel are required to register in person so fingerprints can be recorded as a part of the biometric identification system. Registration only takes about a minute and the only required documentation is your DoD ID card. Newly assigned personnel and visitors must stop at the visitor center to register prior to base entry. DBIDS is used for creating visitor passes. Each DoD ID card holder has the ability to sponsor six visitors and two vehicles at a time. Sponsors are still required to stay with their guests at all times while on the installation. For big events like birthdays and retirements, where seven or more guests will need passes, a list of names should be submitted to pass and registration. For more information about large groups, contact Pass and Registration at 731-6555 or 731-3221. Why do I have to go to the gate when I am on orders? · All personnel are required to be vetted before entry to the installation is allowed. In other words, when you first arrive at Malmstrom AFB, the visitor center will verify your ID card's validity with DEERS to ensure only authorized personnel are allowed entry. Are only AF members required to register? · No, all branches of service, civil service, retirees and dependents 16 years of age and older must register before entry will be allowed to the installation. If I registered at another base do I have to register again at Malmstrom? · Yes, you must register at each installation before access will be allowed.
