Community notes Published Nov. 28, 2011 By 341st Missile Wing Public Affairs Office staff MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Volunteers needed for bell ringing The Salvation Army is gearing up for their 2011 Red Kettle campaign and volunteers are needed to serve as bell ringers to help raise money in support of social humanitarian efforts. The campaign is slated to start Nov. 24 and run through Dec. 24, every Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Normal shifts are two hours long. Thrift Store brown bag sale The Thrift Store is conducting a brown bag sale on clearance items Dec. 2 and Dec. 3. The store is also in great need of items for consignment or donation. The Thrift Store is open Tuesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as well as the first Saturday of every month. It is located in building 581 off Goddard Avenue. Operation Holiday Cheer final competition The final competition for this year's Operation Holiday Cheer is a base-wide scavenger hunt taking place Dec. 2-4. The OHC wrap-up party is Dec. 15 at the Grizzly Bend Club starting at 6 p.m. Warrior Chef competition coming Dec. 16 The next head-to-head cooking competition between chefs from the three missile squadrons, the Force Support Squadron, and new, this time is a team from the 819th RED HORSE Squadron, is Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Elkhorn Diner. Judges include special guest judge Father Leo Patalinghug along with Col. H.B. Brual, 341st Missile Wing commander and Chief Master Sgt. Chuck Anderson, 341st MW command chief. Come out and support your favorite squadron chefs. Air Force Aid Society to award grants Under the General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant program, AFAS awards $2,000 to select applicants. The program is offered to dependent sons and daughters of active duty, Title 10 Air National Guard/Reservists on extended active duty, Title 32 AGR performing full-time active duty, retired, retired Reservists with 20 or more qualifying years of service, and deceased Air Force members. Spouses (residing stateside) of active duty and Title 10 AGR/Reservists on extended active duty; and surviving spouses of deceased members are also eligible candidates.
