Holiday travel reminders Published Dec. 16, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Katrina Heikkinen 341st Missile Wing Public Affairs MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- The winter holidays are here and that means one of the busiest times of year for airport travel. The Great Falls International Airport has experienced record passenger volumes. Airport officials have issued the following holiday travel reminders for members of Team Malmstrom: Arrive at the Airport 90 minutes before the flight time on the ticket. The printed time on the ticket is the departure time of the aircraft. Most airlines close the door 30 minutes prior to the ticket time. Flights will be completely full for the remainder of the year and passengers should expect additional time at the security checkpoint and the ticket counter with lines that are longer than in recent years. Please arrive 90 minutes early to ensure you complete the boarding process. Limit yourself to two checked bags. Flights are completely full and aircraft are approaching their max allowable weight. Check your airline's bag policy before the day of flight. Most airlines are enforcing a limit of two checked bags and one carry-on bag. Many airlines are charging for checked baggage; FedEx'ing additional bags before your flight is advised. Take gifts unwrapped. If you are traveling with gifts, please leave them unwrapped so they can be properly screened with your baggage. Remember 3-1-1 rules for carry-on baggage. Transportation Security Administration requires that all liquids, gels and aerosols (i.e., toothpaste, deodorant, make-up, etc) be limited to containers that are no larger than 3.4 ounces per item. All of these items must fit in one, clear, quart-sized zip-top bag. One quart bag is allowed per passenger. For Airmen that are visiting family for the holidays, following these tips will ensure holiday travels are as smooth as possible.
