Annual event a huge success

Without the traditional Montana blizzards to warn us, the holidays have silently crept upon Team Malmstrom.

The 341st Force Support Squadron and the First Sergeant Council made it their duty to lift spirits with the launch of 'Operation Holiday Cheer' on Nov. 4. The operation ended in a large turn-out on Dec. 15 at the Grizzly Bend. Military I.D. card holders were invited to celebrate the achievements of the 3rd Annual Operation Holiday Cheer and also the hard work of our Airmen.

"Operation Holiday Cheer was a huge success," said Master Sergeant Bradley Thye, 341st LRS first sergeant. "The idea behind OHC is to bring our Airmen together for fun and competiveness during the holiday season. On behalf of the first sergeants here at Malmstrom, we would like to thank everyone who participated and we look forward to doing it again next year."

The wrap up party was the conclusion for a five week event that consisted of a dodge ball tournament, 9-pin no-tap bowling tournament, a scavenger hunt and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament. The participants of these events were entered into a drawing for a grand prize of $1,500 towards round-trip airfare anywhere in the Continental United States. Other drawings were held at the wrap up party and winning was as easy as simply showing up. Prizes consisted of cash, gift cards, DVDs, video game consoles, a laptop, small home appliances and what everyone had their eyes and hearts set on -- a 40" LCD HD TV.

"I've never won anything in my life," said Tech. Sergeant Tiffany Sykes, 341st Medical Support Squadron medical laboratory apprentice. "I'm so grateful and I feel extremely blessed." Sykes was the winner of the grand prize.

The holidays can be a depressing time for Airmen stationed far from home, and the OHC was a great way to ease minds and lift everyone into the holiday spirit. With a room decorated by smiles and contagious laughter ricocheting from table to table, this event was a joyous occasion and echoed everything that Team Malmstrom stands for.
