Community notes: Week ending July 27 Published July 27, 2012 MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Upcoming change of command The 341st Missile Maintenance Squadron change of command is scheduled for July 30 at 10 a.m. in the 3-Bay Hangar. Embry-Riddle summer term enrollment Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has started enrollment for the summer 2012 term which starts Aug. 6. ERAU offers 9-week classes onsite, online, or through Eagle Vision system. The University will be offering a private pilot ground school course, during this time. The course will run nine weeks and will be held on Monday nights at the Education Center from 6 to 11 p.m. For more information, call ERAU at 727-9901. Outdoor Recreation trips slated The following are upcoming family-oriented outdoor adventure trips offered by Malmstrom's Outdoor Recreation: · A caving adventure into Lick Creek Cave featuring the Cathedral Room is scheduled for July 29 from 1 to 8 p.m. · A bow hunting basics class, taught by Kirk Clark, is scheduled for July 30 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Participants will learn how to accelerate archery prowess, arrow placement and how to outfit. Public School Information Fair slated Team Malmstrom members are invited to attend the Great Falls Public Schools Information Fair Aug. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Youth Programs gym. The fair will include information on T.R.O.O.P.S, Hands (a before/after school child care program), transportation, food services, Malmstrom Air Force Base Youth Programs, as well as an opportunity to meet district and school personnel. Lunch will be provided and free childcare, funded by the Air Force Aid Society, is available through the Malmstrom Home Day Care Providers program. AFGSC Striker Life Half Marathon Air Force Global Strike Command is sponsoring a half marathon, 10K and 5K run scheduled for Aug. 24 at Sun Plaza Park. The half marathon will start at 8 a.m.; 10K starts at 8:30 a.m.; and the 5K starts at 9 a.m. Race day registration will be from 7 to 7:45 a.m. at Sun Plaza Park. Pre-race packets can be picked up at the Fitness Center starting Aug. 22 at noon and Aug. 23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Packets include T-shirt, race number and a gift from sponsors. Every half-marathon finisher will receive an official Striker Life 2012 Half Marathon medal. Those interested should register at Malmstrom's Fitness Center or at www.341FSS.com. Current students will graduate or be disenrolled after 12 months plus one optional three-month extension for those remaining in good standing and have passed at least two of the three required exams. Course 20 enrollment will not occur after Dec. 27, 2013. Students who have not completed the course by Dec. 27, 2013, will have to re-enroll in the new Course 20 class.
