Understanding the inspection Published Nov. 30, 2012 By 341st Missile Wing plans MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- As we prepare for the upcoming Consolidated Unit Inspection beginning Dec. 3 many of you may be asking yourselves what exactly is a CUI? And what are some "do's and don'ts" we can follow to ensure success at Malmstrom? A CUI is comprised of several different teams conducting synchronized compliance-focused inspections over a one-week period. The following are a few "do's and don'ts" to ensure we show the inspectors that we are the experts, the professionals and we perform our mission day-in and day-out with perfection. Some do's: 1. Keep a positive mental attitude as we go through the inspection Continue to do the same excellent job that you've been doing Don't change just because we have inspectors looking over your shoulder 2. Ensure you render proper courtesies while inspectors are in your area Stand when inspectors - all inspectors - arrive in your office/work area Reply with "sir" or "ma'am" to any inspector with comments/questions Remember that we will have senior officers out and about on base 3. Clean up and pick up on a daily basis Walk around outside of your facilities to pick up debris Shovel and remove snow or ice (if necessary) Clean up inside of your facilities Take out the trash on a daily basis Clean up common areas, hallways, break rooms, etc 4. Display a sense of urgency all the time 5. If the inspectors discover any problems, correct what you can on the spot Two don'ts: 1. Don't argue with inspectors - elevate concerns or issues up the chain of command 2. Don't attempt to guess at an answer Look up the answer in the proper AFI or Technical Order while the inspector is there Ask the inspector or supervisor for clarification It is critical that we all use the scheduled exercises and dedicated prep efforts to work out every problem and to fully understand the condition of our programs. As we work toward the opportunity to show the Inspector General what we are made of, we encourage each supervisor, program manager and Airman to do everything they personally can to be prepared. We are Wing One for a reason - because we are always ready. Now let's show the inspectors.
