Community notes Published March 7, 2013 By 341st Missile Wing Public Affairs Office staff MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Knock Out Meth event The Montana Meth Project in Great Falls is partnering with the Boys and Girls Club for an event to promote teen awareness about the risks of using methamphetamine. A "Knock Out Meth" event is scheduled for tomorrow from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club. Grizzly Bend events The following are upcoming events at the Grizzly Bend scheduled for the month of March: · A Latin Top 40 night is scheduled for March 15 from 8 p.m. to midnight. · A country night is scheduled for March 26 from 8 p.m. to midnight. · Monday night madness is scheduled every Monday from 4 to 9 p.m. · Ladies night is scheduled for every Wednesday from 4 to 9 p.m. Stations of the Cross service A Stations of the Cross service will be held every Friday through March 22 in the chapel sanctuary from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a soup and bread dinner. Gadgets galore at the base library The base library is hosting a free class on training and technical support for electronics March 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Devises include e-readers, smart phones, iPads, iPods, MP3 players and similar devices. Health and Fitness Fair There will be a Health and Fitness Fair and Sports Day being held at the fitness center May 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will include health fair booths, food, drinks and sport events. Bow hunter education courses offered Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is offering two free bow hunter education classroom courses at Paris Gibson Education Center, located at 2400 Central Ave. The first class is scheduled for April 10 and 11 from 6 to 9 p.m., and April 15, 17 and 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. A field exercise is scheduled for April 20. The second course is scheduled for May 14 and 16 from 6 to 9 p.m., and May 18 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information or to register, go to the FWP website at http://www.fwp.mt.gov. Registration is also taking place at the FWP, located at 4600 Giant Spring Road, on April 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. and May 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. Students are required to pick up and read the bow hunter education manual before the first class. Prospective bow hunters between the ages of 12 and 17 must take both a hunter and bow hunter education course before they can attain an archery license. Elkhorn Dining Facility events The following are events being held at the dining facility: · The Elkhorn Dining Facility is in need of artwork done by dormitory residents. Assisted living classes offered The following events are being held to help people get better understandings of situations and other things associated with assisted living. All events will be held at Cambridge Courts Assisted Living here in Great Falls. · On March 14, a presentation educating people on the differences between assisted living, nursing homes, skilled nursing homes and retirement homes will be held for those interested at 6:30 p.m. Memory care will also be discussed during this event. · An Alzheimer's Support Group is held on the 3rd Tuesday of every month and an MS Support Group is held on the 3rd Thursday of every month. MSC scholarships offered The Malmstrom Spouses Club is offering scholarships for Malmstrom family members based on scholastic achievement, potential to work successfully at the college level, quality of the student essay, leadership, and extracurricular activities and achievements. Specific eligibility criteria is included in the application packet, which is available by emailing malmstromspousesclub08@yahoo.com. All applications must be postmarked by April 1. Outdoor adventure trips The following are outdoor adventure trips offered by Malmstrom's Outdoor Recreation: · A family snow-tubing trip is scheduled for March 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. · A Wing ski day at Showdown Ski Resort is scheduled for March 20. Top 3 scholarship The Malmstrom Top 3 is offering a scholarship to one Airman and one noncommissioned officer each quarter. Members interested in applying should submit a two-page essay on the topic "Communication: effective from top down or down up," to Master Sgt. Ronrico Pace via email at ronrico.pace@us.af.mil no later than March 15. The winners must be enrolled in an accredited college to receive the scholarship.
