With the spring construction season fully underway, the following are some highlights of what has already been done and the planned community enhancements Team Malmstrom members can expect to see throughout the rest of 2013 and 2014. Maintenance Facility and Self Help Center In February , BBC completed construction of a new maintenance facility and self-help center located at 110 South Perimeter Road. The maintenance facility is an important hub for all of BBC's maintenance operations, while the self-help center gives residents access to home supplies such as furnace filters and light bulbs, as well as a variety of useful home and garden tools that can be borrowed free of charge. Community Gardens A ribbon cutting ceremony was held May 18 celebrating the grand opening of two community gardens located in the housing neighborhood. Housing and dorm residents can collaborate with fellow gardeners and tend to their own plots. The gardens boast 42 15x20 plots that, from an aerial view, have been positioned to look just like a missile. All plots have been assigned for 2013 and a waiting list has been established for future openings. Partnering with River City Harvest, free classes have been offered on and off base for residents to enjoy such as Gardening in Montana 101 and Bokashi Composting. A schedule of LifeWorks activities is available on BBC's Malmstrom website. Community Center and dog park BBC worked through the winter to demolish 52 housing units in the old Titan Village neighborhood to make room for a new 19,000 square-foot community center. The community center will feature an indoor pool, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, business center, kitchen and two multipurpose rooms. Residents can also look forward to a dog park located adjacent to the community center. Both are on track for completion in the Fall of 2014. Next summer, fencing will be installed at the remaining units in Minuteman Village and patio covers at the remaining units in Peacekeeper Park as well as 12 units in Jupiter Village. Outdoor Amenities Malmstrom residents will soon enjoy 10 new picnic shelters and one mile of lighted walking trails scattered throughout the housing areas.
