In 2018, beneficiaries experienced TRICARE Open Season and Federal Benefits Open Season for the first time.

This year, the Federal Benefits Open Season begins on Nov. 11 and ends on Dec. 9. Open season allowed eligible beneficiaries to make changes to their health and dental plans.

Eligible beneficiaries could also enroll in the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP) for the first time.

During the 2019 TRICARE and Federal Benefits Open Season, eligible beneficiaries will again have the option to enroll in or change their TRICARE health plan, or enroll in or change their FEDVIP plan.

Open season is the only time beneficiaries can switch or enroll in a plan, unless they have a Qualifying Life Event (QLE).

The 2020 Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP) plans and rates can now be viewed online using the FEDVIP plan comparison tool (see related links).

If a member is currently enrolled in a FEDVIP dental or vision plan and don’t want to make a change, actions are not needed, however, the member should still check and understand any 2020 changes to their plan and plan costs.

Dental premiums will increase 5.6% on average over current rates. Vision premiums will increase 1.5% on average.

If changes need to be made to a member’s FEDVIP plan, do so during open season or follow a FEDVIP qualifying life event.

For 2020, FEDVIP offers ten dental and four vision carriers to choose from.

To help select the right dental and/or vision coverage for a member and their family, use the FEDVIP plan comparison tool. The online tool allows you to compare 2020 plans and rates based on where they live. Members can compare up to three plans side-by-side.

Individual plan brochures can be viewed by clicking on “View details” within the FEDVIP plan comparison tool.

Review the plan brochures to learn more about the benefits, including how to obtain care, cost for covered services, claims process and more before making the final enrollment decision.
