The 341st Force Support Squadron hosted a Warrior Chef Competition Nov. 22 at the Grizzly Bend Recreation Center.

The competition covers the first quarter of fiscal year 2017 and consisted of three teams; two from the 341st FSS and one from the 341st Missile Wing.

The judges for the competition were Col. Jose Rivera, 819th RED HORSE Squadron commander, Lt. Col. Daniel Hays, 12th Missile Squadron commander and Capt. Juan Torres, a 341st FSS member.

The teams were graded on taste, texture, tenderness, creativity, honoring the secret ingredient and presentation.  Each category was worth a maximum of 5 points.

When it came to developing a strategy going into the competition, answers varied.

“I just go in with a plan of being as creative as you can with the dish,” said Airman 1st Class Olivia Tossa, 341st FSS missile field chef.

Tossa was a member of the chef team called “French Toast Mafia.”

“There’s not really a strategy for me since I don’t know the ingredients until the competition starts, so I basically just improvise as I go along,” said Senior Airman Jessica Rugg, 341st FSS missile field chef.

Rugg was a member of “The Three Missileers” warrior chef team.

“I prayed to God before this competition kicked off; I asked Him to give me strength and the edge to be the best I can be,” said Senior Airman Jacob Yates, a member of the 341st Security Forces Group.  “I pray every time before every kind of competition I enter.”

Yates was a member of the “Tasty Trinity Squad” chef team.

The secret ingredients were pistachios and sweet potatoes.

The winning team for the competition was the “Tasty Trinity Squad,” which consisted of retried Master Sgt. Rhonda Adkins, Yates, and Airman 1st Class Dencencio Griffin, a 341st Force Support Squadron missile field chef.

The winning dish was a roasted red pepper pasta.

Each winning team member received a $50 dollar gift card to a local Great Falls restaurant.
