Bowling leagues start up; registration kicks off

MALMSTROM AIR BASE, Mont. -- While there are still a few weeks left to enjoy of the summer, fall will be here before everyone knows it. Now is the time to start making your recreation plans for the months ahead and joining a bowling league just might be in order.

Aces High Bowling Center is currently undergoing some extensive exterior renovations. (Access to the facility is from the side entrance between Aces and the base theater.) But everything inside the facility is up and running.

"The main entrance to the facility will be done before the start of the fall and winter leagues," said Dave Rogers, contracting superintendent for the current construction project. "What little there is left to do can be done with the main entrance open."

The following leagues are being offered this year. There is a registration binder at the front bowling desk so if you're interested in participating, stop by and get your name on a list. You do not have to have a full team to participate.

Sunday Night Mixed League: Four person teams consisting of two men and two women.

Monday Morning Officers Spouses Club: Three person team of any gender mix.

Monday Night Handicap League: Three person team of any gender mix.

Tuesday Luncheon League: Three person team of any gender mix. This league is geared to be completed in the one-hour time frame most employees are authorized.

Tuesday Night Ladies League: Just for the women - three person teams.

Wednesday Night Intramural League: Four person teams made up of members from the same squadron. Any combination of men and women. (Note: Commander's trophy points will be awarded this year.)

Thursday Night Mixed League: Four person teams of any gender mix.

Friday Night Mixed League: Four person teams of two men and two women.

Saturday Morning Youth Leagues: For Little Warriors ages 3 to 18.

Organizational meetings are set to begin the third week of August.

"In order to get both the seasoned bowlers, as well as the novice ones ready for the start of leagues, I invite everyone to take advantage of the open bowling special being offered," said Bryon Mullett, Aces High manager. "From 11 a.m. to closing, open bowling is just $1 per game and that includes shoe rental."

Extreme bowling will also continue each Friday and Saturday in August starting at 8:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per person.

For those awaiting the first Monte Carlo night of the season, it is scheduled for Sept. 15, starting at 7 p.m. The cost is $15 per person.
