MILITARY HOUSING OFFICE

On behalf of the 341st Civil Engineer Squadron and the Military Housing Office (MHO), welcome to Malmstrom AFB and Montana! Military family housing at Malmstrom is privatized, owned and operated by Malmstrom AFB Homes. They are responsible for maintaining, repairing, constructing and managing the community. MHO works hand-in-hand with MAFB Homes and are co-located in Building 130, which is on Goddard Drive across from the Red Horse Squadron (see map).

For information about the privatized housing community at Malmstrom AFB, visit the Malmstrom AFB Homes website. This website provides information about the homes and amenities available in the privatized housing community, different neighborhoods and the various floor plans.

Finding affordable contemporary/modern housing in Great Falls can be challenging and makes for a difficult transition if you don’t plan ahead. There are housing availability constraints for quality/affordable rentals within the established Basic Allowance for Housing rates. The rental inventory tends to be older, outdated, or overly expensive. Members wishing to live off-base permanently or temporarily may find most landlords are not willing to accept pets or offer a month-to-month lease. The limited homes on base have an average wait time of 2-6 months, forcing members to search those hard-to-find rentals while they are waiting. Having a plan, being prepared, and researching the market prior to your move can help provide for a smoother transition.

Additional MHO support services include helping members understand their lease agreements, the reasons for using a military release clause, and assisting with resident/landlord dispute resolution both on and off base. The MHO partners with landlords, realtors and property managers to help you receive the most current information about the local housing market. The Base Legal Office is also available to assist with counseling and reviewing leases as needed.

Part of our commitment to Malmstrom’s Airmen is our compliance program. We ensure our privatized owner, MAFB Homes, complies with the closing document, operating instructions, and validates each unit's upkeep and repairs are completed accordingly. We're always on top of quality assurance by completing our own walk-through inspections during the MAFB Homes Change of Occupancy Maintenance inspections, which is when the MAFB Homes maintenance team completes any and all repairs on a unit in between occupants. A member of our MHO team may be present at move-ins, move-outs, and pre-inspections to meet our additional Air Force requirements. We also follow up on occupant's submitted work orders to ensure maintenance teams are meeting time response thresholds allowed and that MAFB Homes completed the work orders. On a weekly basis, we'll verify all members on the housing waitlist and ensure MAFB Homes is offering housing units properly.
